about

d.FREQ, an expansion of my dYSTHYMIa.sCAPe sound installation (rendered output included in this release), is a recording of a live computer music recital, performed on May 4th, 2017, that seeks to raise awareness of the American Mental Health epidemic through sonic representation. It features contributions of crowdsourced sonic assets from individuals who experience depression and anxiety disorders.

Amidst the litany of extremist, isolationist, and generally problematic policies the right-wing American political party promises to introduce, they vow to dismantle Obamacare. The Affordable Care Act not only provides healthcare to those who, like myself, were unable to afford insurance before its implementation, but also mandates Mental Health and Substance Abuse Disorder parity and coverage.

There are many who stand to lose access to medication or therapy services from an inability to afford them out of pocket. With the political conversation currently dominated by talk of border walls, Muslim bans, Syrian bombings, and tensions with Russia, there needs to be a continual media presence concerned with the loss of mental healthcare services, lest those who suffer will remain unheard.

All profits from this album are donated to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America
